Rock Garden & Golden Pavilion.

After a busy morning mountain climbing at the Fushimi-Inari-Taisha shrine we jumped the train across town to the northwest of Kyoto to visit two very iconic Kyoto sites.
The Ryoan-ji Temple is home to the famous "Rock Garden" an arrangement of 15 rocks in a meticulously raked sea of river pebbles. So Zen.  The grounds and gardens of the complex were also totally curated down to the last blade of grass and "naturally" stunning.

Our second site for the afternoon was the Kinkaku-ji Temple, AKA The Temple of the Golden Pavilion.  Again set is a stunning landscape that appears so artfully natural.  This gilded structure hovers over a lake in magical serenity.
