Shanghai nights

Shanghai by night turns into a city glittering with old school neons and new world digital displays.  The balmy August evenings are perfect for a spot of late night shopping or seeking out a dining experience, with a little bit of bar crawling and club hopping thrown in for good measure.

And for that perfect photo opportunity, you can not go past the acclaimed M on the Bund, with its wonderful terrace that gives ringside views across the Huangpu river to the skyline of Pudong.

Temple & Garden

On our last morning in Shanghai we made an effort to get out and about early to take a look at the famed Yuyuan Gardens.  We also popped into the City God Temple which is just adjacent to the site of the gardens.  The temple offers an abundance of gods and gold mixed with the sweet smokey scents of a thousand incence stick

The gardens were a total delight and definitely go on our must see list for this city.  Fantastical fantasy and folly twisted into a maze of walkways and pavilions with a myriad of styles and motifs to entertain and amuse.  Originally built in 1559 by a government official of the Ming court as a comfort and refuge for his ageing parents, it is truly a masterpiece.

Be sure to take a leisurely tour of Yu Gardens and marvel at the magnificent scenery.
