Dining @ Pontocho Ally

Pontocho dori is a wonderful little alleyway that runs parallel to  Kyoto's Kamo-gawa river.  It is extremely narrow and lined on either side with a profession of tiny little shops and restaurants.  Although it is a tourist mecca, it also has some many brilliant and varied places to eat.  Some have terraces that overlook the river which are perfect for warm humid Kyoto evenings.

We chose this little place for our first evenings meal, its speciality was Okonomiyaki, Japanese savoury pancakes. You choose you ingredients, chicken, pork, etc, they mix it all up and grill it and then serve it on to a heated grill on your table.  Then you dress it with mayonnaise, sauce and other condiments to your liking.  Absolutly delicious.  They even have a special noodle version.  Brilliant.
