Statement on Urban Scrawl

“In Browns latest body of work to be shown March 2013, he has taken to exploring his urban environment and has adopted the ever changing and ever energetic grafitti/street art of his home town of Melbourne as his landscape.  The exhibition “Urban Scrawl” is a reflection on the beautiful, or at times brash and crass, abstract layering by disparate artists that haunts the laneways and alleys by night to create the ever evolving patina that is the backdrop to our inner city lives.
His figurative characters and fanciful collaged “spirit” creations live in a world of reassembled paint, paste and paper. The fleeting fragility coupled with the competitive collaboration from where these vistas have evolved is afforded a permanent record in oil and canvas.  The scrawl of tags, over paste ups and covering spray work have been recorded and reworked into a kaleidoscopic demimonde for his immortals to inhabit. “
