Yangon Shopping

Out and about in Yangon on a shopping tour and we came across a hub of great businesses on Pansodan Street.  Sharky's Cafe was a smart eatery and we were delighted to see work of Morrison Polkinghorne, his oversized tassel, rope and light installation was incredible.

Then located directly above was Hla Day, a fantastic enterprise working with local disadvantaged people to train and assist them in creating products and getting out to a broader market.  Such a fantastic array of 100% Myanmar made crafts.

Chatting withe the delightful Ulla Krober, Hla Day's lead designer.

A little further afield and we stumbled across Nawaday TharLar Gallery on Yaw Min Gyi Road.  On the 6th floor of this apartment building, it was not an easy find but so glad we did.  The exhibition was by artist Aung Kyi Soe and titled "Living with Crows", a reference to the fact that these birds are everywhere in Yangon.  We had a great time chatting with the artist and the lovely gallerist Pyay Way.

And further down Yaw Min Gyi Road at Gallery 65, we caught this show of very bright graphic figures.  Note the many red dots, we were informed that a collector had walked in the day before and bought the entire show.  Lucky artist.

And after a busy time about town we took a refreshing stop at the newly refurbished The Strand Hotel.  A very smart decor made for a contrast to the dust chaotic streets on Yangon.

  1. I'm curious to find out what blog platform you happen to be utilizing? I'm experiencing some small security problems with my latest site and I'd like to find something more risk-free. Do you have any suggestions? myanmar tour package
