On our last morning in Shanghai we made an effort to get out and about early to take a look at the famed Yuyuan Gardens. We also popped into the City God Temple which is just adjacent to the site of the gardens. The temple offers an abundance of gods and gold mixed with the sweet smokey scents of a thousand incence stick
The gardens were a total delight and definitely go on our must see list for this city. Fantastical fantasy and folly twisted into a maze of walkways and pavilions with a myriad of styles and motifs to entertain and amuse. Originally built in 1559 by a government official of the Ming court as a comfort and refuge for his ageing parents, it is truly a masterpiece.
Be sure to take a leisurely tour of Yu Gardens and marvel at the magnificent scenery.
