R.I.P. Pussy.

My Pussy, my Pussy, my beautiful Pussy has gone to sea in a wonderful pea green boat.
Oh how we will all miss him.

This week a wonderful friend of the Castle passed away.  David "Pussy" Aboud, was the original Nic-Naker, oracle, sage and mentor for Mr Brown.  A dealer with that incredible eye that could pick out the gem in an Op Shop full of tat at twenty paces.  His critical eye surveyed St. Kilda and Melbourne and he would quip and commentate on all that he found worthy.  A stalwart of the fashion and club scene of Melbourne during the 1980's & 90's, his sense of style was legendary.
Another one gone too soon.

  1. Dear Coco;

  2. Arne just called Brisbane headquarters, when I first met David Aboud he was still turned out by his mother in brogue shoes tweed pants a cotton checkered shirt with a finely woven wool tie the firs tray we came and worked at the 'record market' in Queen Street, Brisbane. Owned by (maude) Hocking and managed by John Simpson this was his baptism, his coming out and set the future for the edginess we all loved. Pixley Street Kangaroo Point was Tony Cottrell's flat a skip down Edward Street and onto the 'fairy' as we all called the ferry to the other side. Puss moved from the Yerongpilly family home of John Aboud Q.C. to THE most 'camp' place on earth . . . Within a week of starting at the shop, Puss was clad in army fatigues with dozens of dolls super glued to the front, stretch tights and those large shoulder bags he was always toting around (full of records and art catalogues), he had lots to catch up on, early on.
He loved me driving him to various suburban beats in my brand new MG - to widely distributed junk shops and always booked me for the annual "queens ball". We lost him to Melbourne, his 40th at summer lands mansion was memorable as was Miss Xteen Dunbar his most adorable muse. Puss and I both sold collections in the same Sydney sale at Phillips in 1999. I supported his various collections and especially the shells in the early daze. I treasure my gifts and cards received, I gave him all my LP's when he left town - they were mostly his gifts to me anyway . . . he did drop in and stay when blowing through town. We shared international mates like Keith and Clayton, its great to see that old shot of him in that signature skull cap - R I P (vale) Puss

  4. Pussy was a beautiful giant of a man who saw beauty in the world, art and people in a way that we can only aspire to. He made us all feel like A-Listers and for that, the quality cups of tea and conversation, his mentoring and freely given love, we must all thank him.

  5. Loved him to bits........
I was so looking forward to our next "show and tell" morning complete with endless cups of tea, chit chat and a bikkie or three.
I feel sure he will be making amazing discoveries at the great big Camberwell market in the sky.
I will miss his pocket full of photos dreadfully......
I'm so thankful for the times we spent together.
    Love you David.

  7. Dear Gavin and John and all of Pussy's friends,
I feel so sad. It was all too sudden and he's really not here.
The last word he said to me in the hospital before surgery was 'Cunt!'
Sign of his pure love. I so wish it all was not so.
    love to you,
    Adele
