Sunday saw us lunching at the newly refurbished
Builders Arms Hotel in Fitzroy.
Newly added as another cog in the Andrew McConnell tread mill of dining establishments, it was busy with the expectant hum of reputation. We guess for many this expectation is being fulfilled. But sadly we were initially struck by the severely stripped back interior that felt more unfinished than chic, the food was good, but not WOW and a few silly errors by the wait staff, although not major, made it seem inept.
Over all an underwhelming show, but hey, maybe our tastes are just a bit more maximalist. Or maybe fools are easily parted from their money in the snow blinding glare of the spartan, underscaled, interior. (beware the wine list)
Head to 211 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, if you would like to try your luck dining in these hygienically sterile surrounds.
