On a Sunday afternoon we like nothing better than taking a short stroll from the Castle. Out of the drawbridge, across the carpark, down the street and around the corner and we're in New Orleans. Claypots seafood restaurant is a St.Kilda institution for great food, but it is the little bar that has been added that is our drawcard. With its Cairo circa 1920 interior, amazing roster of assorted musicians and eclectic cocktail list its a gem.
Sunday sees the amazing Gil Askey and friends squeezed in between the door and the bar playing jazz to melt your heart and warm your soul. Gil married and moved to Australia many years ago, but prior to that he worked in Motown era with the likes of Diana Ross, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight and on and on. Seek this venue out, but only tell your closest friends, because its tiny.
