On a casual Sunday saunter around Melbourne city we happened across Magic Mountain.  This freshly minted saloon/bar/restaurant/club was quietly buzzing along as we settled in to sample some of their fare, touted as Thai bar-b-que.  Not a shade of disappointment to cast at this one.  With a varied and enticing menu that runs through breakfast delights to excite your morning to a lunch/dinner/late offering  that is truly inspiring and tasty fun filled.

A great space with some amazing food to try.  We're very sure that it gets a lot more hectic in the evenings, but it was perfect for a Sunday Brunch.

Coco-Trannydaze

Recently unearthed pictures of Coco, as taken by Tracey Lester (of The Carlton fame) in 1993.  Shot at the Prince of Wales, it shows Coco in her more tramp/bad girl persona.

Pop up Art with David & Paul.

Caught a pop up artshow in St Kilda with two local lads, David Hugh Thomas & Paul Newcombe, exhibiting their wares.  

David's wonderful pen and ink drawings and musings (as the above..see our post) bring the daily passage of time in our village of St Kilda to life

We even acquired this piece which references The P.O.W. in its old days as a favourite watering hole

Mirka Mora. 2015.

Our own National Living Treasure and darling of the Melbourne art world, the ever fabulous and soon to be 87, Mirka Mora opened her 2015 exhibition on Thursday evening at the William Mora Galleries in Richmond.  Mirka's trademark motifs of creatures, children and cherubs continue to populate her canvases with incredible life and vigour, much like the good artist herself.  With more energy that many folk half of her age and a naughty, wicked twinkle in her eye, our beloved Mirka held court, giggling, telling stories and signing/decorating all books and papers put before her.  She charmed her adoring audience as ever.

Since arriving in Melbourne in the 1950's from France, Mirka has been been prominent in a artistic and social clique that assisted in taking Melbourne from a provincial outpost to the worldly sophisticated metropolis that we are today.  A wonderful and rare gem she is indeed.

Happy Land & Recent Paintings

In a busy art week out and about we caught 2 exhibitions at Scott Livesey Galleries, the delicate and whimsical works of Thai/Australian artist Vipoo Srivilasa in his show titled Happy Land.  The cute title and seemingly sweet artworks belie the darker themes Vipoo is exploring, of the harm introduced flora and fauna have wreaked across the Australian landscape.  His meticulous ceramic figurines in crisp delft like blue and white glazes were superb.  We have attended several of Vipoo's exhibitions over the past 10 years and he never fails to delight.

Also on show were the works of British born artist and man about town, Robert Doble.  Titled, Recent Works, this was a continuation on his long running series of "Gravity" works.  Multi layered/coloured/gridded pieces in an array of hues.
